IIRC, there was also an issue with soil contamination in the former Sears’ parking lot due to a previous gas station.
Even though the condo market is soft, I think they could sell condominiums at that location. Though maybe a different developer, somebody like Knightsbridge or Minto, where they...
It depends on what’s more important for people. How something appears from the outside, or what function does it provide overall? For some people it’s more important to have and ugly building supplying extra housing in a central walkable area, than it is not having to look at an ugly building...
Is the population for 2023, at the beginning of 2023, or at the end? I'm assuming it's at the end, but whatever the case, those are huge numbers. 64K, followed by 81K, and this year another 69K. I remember when topping 30k in a year was big growth.
It’d be nice to have more towers, and as a lover of skylines, it would great to have a few clusters here and there and a few more downtown.
Having said that, I don’t want Calgary become Toronto or Vancouver where your choices are a $2million SFH or an apartment unit on the 50th floor of some...
High rise construction has slowed in other cities as well. Vancouver and Toronto are strong but have slowed, and they’re strong in the high rise dept mainly because housing is so expensive and there’s more incentive to build as many units as you can.
This is a great pic. It shows how much 10th Ave has come in the past decade. 10 years ago this snd shot would have been nothing more than parking lots.
I haven’t used the 3rd Ave track myself as I don’t work downtown, but I can see how useful it would be for people who work in the area.
I would be okay with the 3rd Ave track closing if the city stepped up and put one on 4th Ave. The goal should be to have at least one every two blocks (4th...
Went to LHR and came back from
Paris back in July. We’re already planning our trip next summer, which will be Calgary to Barcelona and back to Calgary from Rome. We’re so spoiled having these direct flights.
The east and south side look great IMO. I think it's going to be more to our exceptions once finished.
I'll even make the bold prediction that this angle of Whatchyyc's pic will become an iconic, often photographed angle once the building is finished.
The question should be, why wouldn’t government action work? The projects in the pipeline are there because of the city’s grant. If the province adds funding it’s only going to make it even more viable.
The long term affect from WFH is well understood with only two possible outcomes. Vacancy...
Back in the day I used to work right beside the train tracks, and can also a test that you get used to it, and it’s not a huge problem. The only sound that really bothered me was when the cars were backing up and banging into each other. Didn’t happen that often but I noticed the times it did...
I agree, it’s too busy for my personal taste, but this will be good for Bridgeland, and if I’m being honest, Calgary could use a ton of developments like this one.
I don’t know how much trust I would put in developing residential of any kind of size over top of a landfill. From what I’ve seen in the past, usually it’s either a solar farm or a golf course. Sometimes landfills get developed into a strip, malls and stuff like that but nothing much height or...
